Soguilon joins SEA Games Athletics Competitions

Traditionally, the country has never fared well in the men’s sprint events in the Southeast Asian Games.

That will change in the coming SEA Games when De La Salle University’s Ralph Soguilon leads a crack team of male sprinters in the charge to win a gold medal; something that has never been achieved in the history of the country’s participation in the SEA Games.

Soguilon, who unofficially twice broke the 20-year-old record of Isidro del Prado in the 200 meters, will be gunning for the title of SEAG sprint king when he competes in the 100, 200 and 400 meters in the coming SEA Games to be held here in Manila.

Soguilon, an Electronics and Communications Engineering student of La Salle, has a good chance to medal especially in the 200 meters. He will also anchor the now-formidable RP men’s sprint team, which placed a fighting fourth in the last Vietnam SEA Games.

Traditionally, the country doesn’t even compete in the 4x100 meter relays for men because we never win medals in the event. That changed during in the Vietnam SEA Games when the country placed fourth. The team actually led up until the third runner but eventually lost a “photo finish.”

The country’s other powerful sprinters are Arnold Villarube, Alex Gabito, Albert Salcedo and long jumper Henry Dagmil.

Even RP’s training director for the SEA Games Michael Keon said he would be very happy if a Filipino finally wins a sprint gold in the coming SEA Games. It will be a singular achievement that has never yet been attained even during the glory days of Gintong Alay.

Filipinas like Lydia de Vega, Elma Muros and Mona Solaiman have won honors for the country in sprint events. But no Filipino has ever won a sprint gold medal in the SEA Games.

Soguilon first broke the 21.44 record of Del Prado in the 200 meters in this year’s UAAP competition by clocking 21.43. But because there was no wind gauge, his time was not recorded into the books. He clocked 21.26 in the Taiwan Open last May but his record was also not recognized because it was wind-aided.

For a dear friend: Pedro Albert Consolacion

Let us all pray for the repose of the soul of
our dear friend, and classmate
Pedro Albert F. Consolacion...
May he rest in peace with the Lord.

Our Dearest Friend

Let each day we live be a blessing.
as God showers us with His love.
For He's always watching over us,
from His heavenly home above.

Let each day be filled with joy and peace,
from dawning of day through night.
But when the problems of life get us down,
let's look to God to solve our plight.

He'll never leave His children's side.
He is always there for us.
He longs to be our closest friend,
so in Him, let's put our trust.

No matter if we're happy or sad,
God's love is ever true.
He wants to see us happy,
and He offers us comfort too.

He will lift us up through all we face,
for we are each His special child.
He'll give us all the strength we need.
to walk that extra mile.

It's wonderful to know there's One,
on whom we can always depend.
For when Jesus became our Savior,
He also became our dearest friend.

Throughout our life we each have friends,
who will extend a helping hand.
But Jesus is our only friend,
whose love is as endless as grains of sand.

When our life on earth is over,
and we cross that pearly shore.
Jesus, our most precious friend,
is waiting to greet us at heaven's door.

Aspera hosts 406 6th Christmas Reunion

Marc Steven G. Aspera was last year's host for the Annual 406 Christmas Reunion for 2005, 30th December on the said year. Residing at DBP Cmpd., Mateo Road, General Santos City, Aspera heartily accepted the hostmanship for the Reunion.

Soguilon, the Class Reunion Chairperson headed the said activity, with Mr. Harry Mangohig as the emcee. After the dinner, Ralph, strongly encouraged the class to patronize the plans of the 30.00/month fee for the group (sums up to 360.00/year). Soguilon said that the amount will be used as source of finance for the next reunion, or for future activities and projects.

After the long chit-chatting, the guys went to East Asia Royale Hotel to continue the fun all throughout the night...

Mr. Jostre Jumantoc and Ms. Lourdes "Oyet" Cabangal attended the said reunion.

The hosts of the previous years were the following:

2000 Francis William Ymbong Macopa Street, GSC

2003 Philip Andrew Mayol G. Misa Street, Lagao, GSC
2004 Kenneth Mark Purisima Geronimo Subd., Prk. Malakas, GSC
